5 Days
Introduction
This 5-day course will make students self-sufficient in building Performance Insight reporting solutions and in the implementation and automation of advanced Performance Insight deployments -- including multi-server, distributed, and failover configurations using HP Performance Insight (PI) version 5.4. This lecture and lab course is taught on Windows® platforms, but includes nformation for operating PI on Unix systems
Prerequisite
The students must have attended PI Administration Essentials training before attending this class. There is very little overlap between the two classes so without first attending the PI Essentials class, the student will not have the necessary PI foundation and understanding in order to comprehend the Advance Administration class.
Students should be either Network or Server Administrators who have a solid networking or server background and experience.
Familiarity with the SNMP protocol including MIBs and instance identifiers, or familiarity with the HP Performance Agents (OVPA/OVOA)
An understanding of basic statistical analysis functions.
Experience with relational databases (helpful).
Course Objectives
At the end of the course, you will be able to:
-
Implement and configure the NNM and PI Integration Module.
-
Understand the steps involved in creating PI Reporting Solutions.
-
Create new data collection tables from a MIB, from OVPA, and import Flat Files.
-
Use the PI utilities to aggregate (summarize) collected data into useful metrics to be displayed in reports.
-
Use the Report Builder to create new reports and to modify existing reports.
-
Understand how to automate the mapping of property management data into place so that it can be displayed in reports and used for summarizations.
-
Modify existing and create new Forms in order to update Property tables to enhance to the data being displayed in Reports.
-
Understand Datapipe TEEL Command Directives and the use of datapipe_manager in order to create PI Data and Property tables.
-
Understand how to install, configure, and deploy a multi-server PI environment.
-
Enable and configure Location Independent Reporting.
-
Modify and create Trend_Proc Scripts.
-
Setup TrendCopy processes to copy data from one PI server (Central) to another PI server (Satellite).
-
Automate and streamline Hourly and Daily Rollups and routine maintenance processes for successful long-term operations.
-
Understand all the steps to provision a primary PI Server and copy that provisioning data to other PI Servers.
-
Understand how to design and setup a High Availability (Failover and Recovery) solution for your PI implementation.
